Your source for freebie information

Hi everyone.

Much is up for discussion tonight so put on your thinking caps and pull out your pencils! Taxes, I-Deal issues, Acquisis terms, Brandarama, Central Coast Nutraceuticals using Oprah? It’s all here! Ruction over Brandarama letters will come first though.

After waiting nearly two years on $4,160.00 in gifts, I am expected to front thousands of dollars, collect receipt copies from various merchants, then mail them within 30 days…This ticks me off. For some, they did less than 1K in gifts, so it’s not as bad. Still, not everyone can blow hundreds of thousands of dollars, or spend the extra $500.00+ on trivial items/gcs. I suppose people could drum up charges on their credit cards, but not everyone’s limits are 1.5K+. They know that. Their scheme is to thrive off those who cannot fulfill this requirement. I mean, they give us only 30 days? Make us pay up front? Can they reimburse us within 8-10 weeks, if at all, with the queue as long as it is? Their intent is to hasten the shipping process by allowing Mpell Solutions, another company, to take over. I appreciate them making an effort to remit payment after such a long period of time, but it isn’t exactly what I call “sincere.” It’s much like rebate redemption, you know? Companies like Brandarama hire third party vendors to jump in. Below is taken from doylnea, who couldn’t have said it any better.

“Kingston or Crucial don’t actually pay your rebates directly, they hire a third party vendor (TPV) who fulfills all the rebates. The TPV gets a check/wire transfer at the beginning of the promotion and then fulfills gifts based on the check. In most cases, the TPV profits on the difference between what they have to fulfill, and what the company offering the rebate pays. In all cases, it’s less costly for the TPV than the money that they’re paid at the beginning of the promotion because of “breakage.” “Breakage” occurs when people don’t follow the directions to the letter; example: not including the UPC, not postmarking the letter in time, etc.”

That should give you an idea. The problem is they combine the months. Say you’re in the Oct 07-Dec 08 CTS range and have $2,000.00 total in gifts, you must pay that amount all-at-once as they mail you letters for each of them at the same time. Below is how the two page letters appear.

Seeming malfeasant, but they aren’t. They’re offering a solution in terms of payment, it’s how they chose to go about it that inconveniences many individuals. My hope is this changes once they catch up, or else they should close shop. Even Acquisis are lagging these days, which I will touch on in a moment. So this is what we learnt. Oct 07-Dec 08 CTS is the range they’re in. They reimburse you for ONE item per certificate, so there aren’t limitations to how many gifts you earn. You receive your check within 8-10 weeks, and you’ve got 30 days from the time you read your letter(s) to finish. Anything else can be found in the letters.

Acquisis updates! The new terms are now in tact. 105 days for crediting… ehhhh, seems a wee bit long, but they probably want more time for shipping/ordering as many requests are made on particular prizes. But they still respond to e-mails, and are now working on my MCR. That I can live with.

“Dear me,

Thank you for sending along this confirmation. We will contact the sponsor to confirm your participation in this offer. We will get back to you as quickly as possible.

Sincerely,

Customer Support”

They also shipped two members $2,500.00 in Apple gift cards. Things are looking up! ^^

Taxation time all! By far this is the most dreaded topic, but paying our taxes is important, especially in today’s world. Different types of taxes exist; income tax, property tax, and sales taxes to name a few. Taxation goes on the principle of taking a little money from all for the greater good of all. Let’s do the greater good and pay our taxes! w9s! 1099s! Yay!! Okay, so my “I’m going to sound excited about taxes to motivate others to learn more about them” approach isn’t going so well. We must realize taxation is founded to help, not hurt. Many good things come from paying taxes; roads are built, education flourishes, it aids in paying for healthcare, and much more! Most of you know the drill. Fill out the w9, get the 1099 back in the mail, etc. What I will do is provide some information I found based on the inquiries I received this week. Be informed. Brush up on your taxes below!

Who must file a tax return?

Tax audits and penalties

Taxes on capital gains

Withholding your taxes

Common tax credits

Taking personal exemptions

Alternative minimum tax

Calculating tabable income

Itemizing your deductions

Filing a return online

2009 tax brackets

Current standard deductions

Filing for an extension

I know it’s a lot to read, take it a day at a time if you have to. It’s just the basics, and some conditions have changed. I feel like I’m in school again, lol. Reading and taking notes all night. My most recent question:

“(hi wozniack!)

do we have to pay taxes for things that did not require a w-9 form? say if you did one gift for a company and it was under 600 dollars? i got to reading the taxes thread in the DIY section, and people are saying even if you don’t get the 1099 form you have to report it and now i’m confused. blink.gif do you have any experience with this from years past?

-kinneylamb

p.s. supposed to be paranoid face ^ above ^ but i cant find it ”

No matter the amount of the gift(s) you MUST report all freebies earned during the fiscal year. Even if you never received the 1099. The $600.00 threshold is there because the freebie companies must collect and retain the w9, then mail you the 1099. It’s for them to keep track of their records. If you do an I-Deal site that’s a $500.00 gift, you owe taxes on that gift even if you don’t have to fill out the w9. It’s like paying for candy and a soda, small value, but you gotta pay extra.

Speaking of I-Deal, let’s move on…

They seem to be the saviour of DIY, and, eh, maybe Acquisis, lol. This time a year and a half ago I never thought I would utter those words.

I stalled on this question:

“Since you seem to know alot about DIY sites and I-deal, I figured I’d ask you. I am very certain I’ve never done an I-deal site. I might have signed up for one, but never have completed any offers on them. I really want to do christmasonus, but it won’t let me.

You are not eligible for this reward for one of the following reasons:

* You previously qualified for this reward on ChristmasOnUs.com
* You have qualified for other rewards offered by Bullseye Media, Inc. with a total reward value of $1,000 or more in the last six months.
* You have previously requested not to receive communications from Bullseye Media, Inc., or have otherwise agreed to be excluded from its promotions.

If eligible, please visit other Bullseye Media, Inc. promotional sites after the six-month period has expired.

I HAVE gone into e-mails and unsubscribed before because I was sick of spam, but what I was wondering is, since apparently I must have just unsubscribed, is it allowed for me to sign up using another e-mail? It kinda seems like a stupid question, but I want to ask before I do 8 offers and it decided to not give me the cards. Thanks.”

I’m not sure. I’d like to think they wouldn’t care about signing up with another e-mail as long as you never did any offers using that e-mail. Maybe when that happens they can rectify it somehow. I don’t know. Any thoughts?

I don’t have any new links, but I should have some Canadian links soon. Just keep refreshing this page because I will pop in and update it. :)

Attention is drawn to Central Coast Nutraceuticals and the legitimacy of their advertisements. You may have seen the Acai Berry weight loss drug spring up on referral-based sites, DIYs, and the web. In a scheme called “negative option” advertising, dozens of companies nationwide offer “free” trials of Acai diet products, claiming endorsements from Oprah Winfrey, Rachael Ray and others, but then charge month after month unless the consumer cancels the order. So they mislead millions nationwide with those endorsements, lmao. You know this reminds me of what happened with Taster’s Choice coffee. In the 80′s a man’s face graced their labels, and he made 15.8 million. He was paid a mere $250.00 for a photo shoot back in 1986, and Nestle used it without his consent. He didn’t recognize it until 2002, just kinda funny to me. But like his picture, Oprah’s face was used as well.

I grabbed this from a column, “Consumers trust Oprah and unfortunately, if they are tricked into believing that she is putting her stamp of approval on a product then they are definitely more likely to purchase it.”

See how easy it is to slap someone’s face and/or body on an image? I bet other makers of weight loss products have done the celebrity thing, too. If anything I wish that 12-n-1 Dual Action Cleanse commercial was banished from television. It’s gross. I mean, um, did Klee Irwin really have to detail his daughter’s bathroom dilemma? I understand the significance of lacking enzymes and maintaining a healthy weight and diet, but not all of it was believable. Some of my peers felt sick after taking the 12-n-1 pill. I was scared of it, so I gave it away, lol. Watch this clip, you’ll see what I mean.

I rest my case.

Anyway, I pray our Brandarama issue goes well for us all. But I cannot say I am surprised it turned out this way. I may return with more links over the weekend, so continue to visit my blog, or if you have any you would like to see here hit me up. February’s blog will be up next month, but I wanted to post another to get all this out of the way. :)

Later everyone,

wozniack

Please vote for your favourite blogger in A4F’s 2008 ‘Best Blog’!

My last blog was post-haste, so here is a Pt. 2 version. A member of this forum, who shall remain anonymous, PMed me a letter. He has a situation with I-Deal that I want to discuss as well as share new links. Acquisis turning into a scam? We’ll see!! There won’t be another *hot new networks* this month since it was covered in Pt 1. I normally wait to post until there is more content, however, I wanted to inform everyone about the grade monitor change. Two days later I discover all this news and found links, so I figured, “eh, might as well make a sequel…”, lol.

On with the show!!

People have concerns. Some say they are eminent while pessimists say otherwise. Where is Acquisis headed? We can only go by the present. Issues arose over lost forms, and even *scamming* hesitation. Ponder this. If they hornswoggled people out of gifts after rewarding dozens of members who began over the summer to late November wouldn’t their CS be less likely to work with us on our gifts? As of now, e-mails are exchanged and deliveries are scheduled. The problem is many of us still have doubts, even myself from time-to-time. Some of their responses, “We lost your forms. You will have to resend”, prolongs our progress; as weeks and months go by it pushes us closer to our deadlines. It would suck if they paid everyone else, then took the money and ran before the rest of us finished our sites, lol. Communication issues were on my end, but they finally replied yesterday. I turned in my confirmation a month ago, I guess they never received it.

“Dear me,

We emailed you on December 4th stating that if you had completed additional offers over 75 days ago, please forward us the confirmation emails you received from the sponsors when signing up for those offers.

Our records show that you have completed 1 Gold offer and 2 Platinum offers.

Sincerely,

Customer Support”

Anyway, I mailed it again. I doubt anything bad will happen with these guys, and if it does, it won’t be right away. And yeah, when your forms are in the “Fraud Department” it’s nothing serious. It just means it’s another step in the approval process. It can take up to 30 days. More to come on Acquisis!

Two nights ago I received a PM from a subscriber (I guess, lol); it was a letter detailing his latest experience with I-Deal. I myself realized this when working on the $750.00 gc deal. For his protection we both agreed to leave his name anonymous.

“hey wozniack,

just a letter about i-deal and my experience w/ them lately.
I am mad as hell at the moment. I know you’re an expert at this,
but I wanted to tell you ’bout my experience today with i-deal.
they put me on hold for a site I did recently. reason cited, same
advertiser within 6 months. I asked them wtf are they talking about
(in a nicer way). they named an acai product. I was like oh jesus.
be verrrry careful with the acai products. there’s two that are
the same company, but its different product names, website URLs,
etc. i told them the customers shouldn’t be held responsible for
knowing this kind of stuff, unless it’s more obvious. we got our
own lives, etc. [lol] we don’t mean anything by it, we fell into a trap.
it’s a trap because they are adamant about keeping me on hold
even though they’re clearly making money on the other offers that
i did. i don’t think so. i’m printing a *very* stern letter to
their legal dept as we speak, sending a copy to their e-mail address,
and letting them know i’m not giving up on this.
they help you out, but when they have a chance to make money and not
give you your gift, they will take it. there’s no reason for that.
they’re not stupid. they’re arrogant. nuitech and brandarama and even
netblue have/had good customer service, reasonable, don’t want to lose
you as a customer or cause a ruckus. but i-deal, they ask for what
they get from all these negative things written about them all over
the internet. whatever hell they raise, they deserve it. what a
headache.

anonymous”

This bothers me. I understand that multiple CCN (Central Coast Nutraceuticals) offers grace their pages for variety. For some it’s hard to distinguish one site from the next, this needs to be amended in some way. It’s not just I-Deal, but Brandarama and pretty much all the other networks. It’s not easy battling it out with I-Deal when knowing you mistakably broke the rules as you can only do one offer with an advertiser once every 6 months. From another source I gathered the exact same thing happened to others. I heard through the grapevine that a guy at CCN told I-Deal things just to get members put on hold, but don’t quote me on that. It’s like him though given his behaviour in the workplace; most of you know who I’m referring to. What can be done? Our voices need to be heard!! We have the BBB (Better Business Bureau), FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and the attorney general… But it’s like court, you shouldn’t sue unless you cannot settle, lol. I try to work it out if I can, and I’ve been lucky so far– well, except for one instance. *knocks on wood* If we convene and discuss these matters here or in another place we could work towards a solution. Brandarama seems open to suggestions, but I-Deal isn’t as receptive. If change isn’t practicable, what are some concerns you have, if any? What are your hopes for DIY companies in 2009?

Brandarama is looking better by the minute! What a way to kick off the new year… Mine are seeing more progression with DIY networks that have fallen off the face of the earth so there’s more for us. And blossoming networks like Acquisis minus the “one gift per lifetime” rule. ;)

I stumbled upon some links the other night, so I’ll share. I doubt any of you want to do I-Deal after I scared you guys! j.k haha. I still like them. Here we go…

Speaking of links, this one company gets me worked up… It’s a Canadian DIY company, but they’re not legit and have scammed. They basically are a rip-off of Brandarama. I’m posting this for those who aren’t familiar with their sites. First, view the links…

http://web1.internetrewardcenter.com/Splas…34919&se=01

I find their spam e-mails to succeed I-Deal’s tenfold. There is a way to contact them, but no status page? Hmmm… The sites are generic, and they lure people with blinking buttons and oversized text boxes. Steer clear of them.

This concludes Part 2 of my New Years blog! I’m sorry all of this wasn’t in the first one, but hey, we wouldn’t have the new I-Deal links until next month, so it’s all good. As always, if you are having a problem just hit me up. I love hearing from you! A big thank you to those who have supported my blog. It means a lot. I wish you all a great 2009! Let’s make this a year to remember in freebies…

Later,

wozniack

Happy New Year everyone!! I hope you guys had an awesome holiday. *blows horn*

Before I begin I must explain why I’m not blue anymore… The reason given: A4F are working on downsizing their staff due to a lack of new sites. Wanting to evade countless questions, I am approaching this beforehand. I didn’t want this to be a huge deal, it’s just better to inform everyone of the change now. Up until last spring, I never actively helped out on a forum. Being a source of information and guiding others on A4F has been a fun experience for me, but an experience nonetheless. Receiving the PM from E asking if I wanted to be a Site Cop, what it was called atm, I was surprised. Although expressing qualities of a site cop/grade monitor, inwardly I thought, “Huh? I’ve been here less than a year (10 months, atm). I have no prior experience on a forum other than when I traded (merchant gift cards, lol) years back. Why me?” Weeks on end I meandered all over A4F, not knowing what to do. It was a struggle. I tried my best to not pester the staff with unnecessary questions, only the important ones. It wasn’t until months later I realized my potential on A4F, that I was able to provide better assistance.

I made mistakes, and one recently, though unintentional and it wasn’t all me, it was still enough to cause a stir, which may have contributed to the change; will not elaborate here. The point of all this is you should learn from your mistakes as well as take from life experiences, no matter where you are. I try to see the positive in most things however unfavorable the situation is. From there, I examine it fully, deciding how I can grow as a person. Subsequently that should result in not repeating a similar mistake in the future. I wish all the staff on A4F the best! I hate how this is sounding like a mushy good-bye speech, lol… I didn’t want this to feel like MySpace, but I’m afraid it already has! Ahhhh… I often go on writing sprees, and that’s the problem.

All technical inquiries about freebie networks or spam should be addressed to emoney and bradenr. Any DIY-oriented questions can be PMed to me (or another DIY guru), that’s all I handle now.

Thanks A4F for letting me be apart of your team!

Now that’s passed, why don’t we jump into tonight’s subjects? Honestly, DIY has been quiet, but I do have some news. After months on end without a modicum of knowledge on shipping information, people started receiving gifts early January! If you are CTS for October-November 2007 be on the look out! The amalgamation of ARG (Active Response Group, a.ka Brandarama) and TTSP (TransTech Services Partners) is a good thing. Perhaps TransTech will be able to pay the debt of our gifts and we’ll have a steady flow coming our way. We will all be paid, but that’s just me. Any opposition to my thoughts? I would love to hear it!

*Hot New Networks*

I’m limited when it comes to the NPL/new networks region, however, I think I can work around that.

Freebies4me– They’re kicking 2009 off with a bang! On two of their sites, every 10 referrals nets you a $100.00 and $200.00 bonus! PrizePanda– You may have seen one of their banners floating around. They now have a subforum: http://www.anything4free.com/forums/index.php?showforum=297

YourHugeRewards– They’ve got $2,800.00 to give away, help them out! Also check out their new weekly races promising bigger rewards: http://www.anything4free.com/forums/index….howtopic=147179

More on DIY networks and the like…

Okay, so I have been having a terrible time trying to get the folks at Acquisis to respond regarding my MCR. It used to be easy, but now you have to be persistent. Having e-mailed off and on for a month, I could have mailed my forms, been processed, and possibly have or be closer to obtaining my gift by now, but I’m not. I started October 3rd and completed all of my offers in one sitting, like I would with I-Deal. Two months later all, but one of my offers went approved. I contacted them thereafter with an MCR request, which in turn they demanded my confirmation. Very understandable, so I sent it to them promptly. After sending the confirmation I haven’t heard anything back. I’ve checked my spam folder repeatedly, and added both the site I’m working on and The Reward Depot page’s e-mails to my address book. Still nothing. I’m now at the 90-day mark, and have sent 5-6 e-mails back and forth. Lately users have experienced communication issues, so I’m not the only one. I just hope it doesn’t push me to the end of my deadline, or else I must beseech them for an extension, lol. And I HATE begging networks, especially DIY companies, for things like that. errr.

I’m still waiting on my shipment from I-Deal, but it’s getting closer! Let’s do the math. I began November 28th, and was processed December 15th. People have received their $750.00 gc gifts within 2 months, so towards the end of this month? Maybe sooner? I e-mailed them to see if they could change one of my gcs out for another one, but no reply. Maybe they will, maybe they won’t, but it will still be pleasant once it arrives.

I concocted a title for our links section– “links ‘n such.” Sound good, eh? I’m fresh out of I-Deal links as the ones in last months blog are still pretty recent and there are no new ones. Below are some from YFD and Acquisis though. Enjoy!
